Having heard very little of Up Up Down Down, but liking it very much, I was very excited to get this CD in the mail. After listening to it a whole lot and making a copy of it for someone else, I have to say it's one of the better CD's that I have received in a while.

It is kind of difficult to really describe this CD accurately. Simply put, it is frequently odd-timed indie rock that can range from complete rocking out ala The Casket Lottery to quieter stuff that reminds of something that I can't quite put my finger on. Regardless, this record is right on target. I definitely like it a lot and I'm sure that if these guys rock out and get into things live, I will like it even more. The recording is stellar for this type of music and that absolutely adds to the quality of the record.

My one slight complaint about this album is the vocal style. The singer seems to adopt a type of singing that is laid back that seems to be without an effort behind it most of the time. Although this style does actually work most of the time, there are moments in the record where you either wish he would put more "ummphf" behind his voice and yell a little or just whisper or something else...just to liven things up a little.
Overall though, I think this is a great release and I'm really looking to forward to seeing these guys live to find out if they live up to what's represented on CD.
