Taking their name from the famous cheatcode of the Nintendo system. Up Up Down Down soars from speaker to speaker with their unique brand of indie rock and with songs like "You Landed So Gracefully" and "My Argument Precedes Me" it's no wonder that college radio is awash with their latest effort. Lyrically they don't rest on their laurels but rest somewhere between metaphor and open-minded self-judgment. This is the band that you'll find on all the bio-sheets of the college rock bands of the future as being one of their main influences. The guitar work is spread liberally throughout the album with a helpful dose of awakened distortion and rhythm that will never make your emotions quell. Production quality is as astute as one may expect but then there are songs like "Is That a Terrible Thing to Say?" that go well beyond the definition of the perfect mix and that demand respect. Often a listener will hear their own internal voice saying "this isn't a song but rather a symphonic composition" and it's true.
