Indie Workshop (indieworkshop.com)
Review by Jake

Four guys from Jersey immortalize the classic Konami code. Yep, all you 8-bit Nintendo nerds can drop knowledge to all your friends, “I knew that band when they were just a code for Contra”. Sure, it might not make you any new friends, but damn it, be proud you know it anyway. Actually, the bands name had me thinking a lot about my old NES system… so much so that I brought it out from the basement and hooked the bad boy up. But enough about how much of a nerd I am… on to a music review.

Bands that blur lines between styles are always going to get points in my book, no matter if I really enjoy the album or not. It’s just something I have to give my respect to. I know, this is sound like a set up to a bad review, but it isn’t.

The band plays a brand of indie rock reminiscent of old Hum material. But take the rocking, heavy feel of Hum, and twist things up with some mathy rhythms. The vocals don’t follow the same pattern as Hum, but rather a more melodic approach. They are not quite “Emo”, but they are not too far off. They vocals are easy on the pallet, and make them more accessible to most listeners. The songs are solid, catchy, and short(most of them come in around the three minute mark). They get in and get out, and they leave you with a melody that could easily be stuck in your head for a while.

It’s rockin’, catchy, mathy, geeky, emotional, and very much worth your time to check it out.
